Core Stability
What is it?
Core Stability. What is it?
A term that gets thrown around quite a bit, the core is simply the deep stabilization system of the body. It has elements stretching from the tips of the toes to the head, neck and jaw. Injury, along with the unique chronic stresses of modern life tend to disrupt the function of the core resulting in too much tone or tightness in other muscle groups as compensation. This leads to a waste of energy, fatigue, poor posture and often (but not always) pain.
People in Portland are pretty good about including activities in their lives that balance the core. Things such as rock climbing, Pilates, Tai Chi, Yoga or specific aspects of a workout routine are great ways to engage the muscles of the core. However, just doing these things is not a guarantee of core activation and when these activities are performed with an unstable core, the full benefit of the exercise is not attained and the body often responds with stiffness and/or pain.
While each person's case is different there are certain imbalances that the human body commonly encounters. At Core Balance we do our best to help you understand what and where those imbalances are and we strive to give you the insights needed to counteract the unique stresses that your life, work or sport present.
